San Antonio – Each year, a group of highly trained and qualified instructors, part of the U.S. Air Force’s Special Warfare Training Division, attend the AT&T Center for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
Wings’ mission at the rodeo is to repel 100 feet below with the American and Texas flags on full display. Experience TSgt. Eric said he’s proud to be part of it.
“The flags are on the big screen, where you bring the flags down. Then you hear them all amplified as those flags come out of the darkness through the ceiling and people start looking at them. It’s really you America is great,” Eric said.
Instructors are part of a strict and highly demanding elite air force. Besides fighting off at the rodeo, their mission is much more serious.
There are four NCO and three officer career fields, and all four of these fields are represented at the Saturday rodeo. These occupational areas are airborne rescue, combat control, tactical air traffic control, and special reconnaissance.
Despite their mission experience, fighting off inside an AT&T center takes some practice and coordination.
“We started our first training here at the Tower. Seen behind me, I set up the rope about 25 feet, tied her knots to all the basics for rappelling, and finished the 40-foot training at the Chapman Training Annex. was moved to the tower of,” TSgt. Scott said.
Fear is not in their vocabulary, whether they are fighting off a helicopter over 100 feet above, surrounded by American airpower, or inside a stadium. They say that serving the community in this capacity brings them true patriotism.
SWTW instructors will be attending the rodeo on Saturday. At the AT&T Center, you can watch them fight off at 12:00pm and 7:00pm.
