The Bond Community Health Center is now open to South Tallahassee residents who do not have a local pharmacy nearby. CVS has announced it is closing.
Bond CEO Temple Robinson said at a press conference on Tuesday that anyone needing pharmacy services could simply call and speak to someone at the Gadsden Street Center to transfer. .
“Nearby residents in the area, Southside, Bond community, and other communities on the Southside should also have easy access to pharmacy services,” said Robinson. “They could move their pharmacy services here.”
CVS, which has provided pharmacy services at this location for 25 years, announced on March 16 that it would be closing and moving prescriptions to its Apalachee Parkway location.

But its closure left out a large pharmacy in this area of Tallahassee, where many people seek uninsured medical services.
Robinson said Bond will provide people with limited transportation a way to access essential medical supplies.The StarMetro bus stop is on the road in front of the center at 1720 South Gadsden Street.
Robinson also announced plans to build a stand-alone pharmacy within Bond’s access to South Monroe Street within the next year.
How to transfer prescriptions from CVS to Bond Community Health Center
Bond’s Pharmacy Director Dr. Margrette Fortune urged anyone traveling to the center to call at least one day in advance. She emphasized that legally patients must speak to someone to transfer their prescriptions.
Only uninsured patients with other health care services can access the federal prescription discounts Bond can avail, she said. she added.
County Commissioner Bill Proctor said Bonds stepping onto the plate shows their dedication to helping in the changing areas of healthcare access in South Tallahassee.
He noted that a nearby Walgreens closed years ago, and more recently Winn Dixie and now CVS.
“Today you can tell the devoted people,” Proctor said. “Bond has been here all along.”
At the same time, the City of Tallahassee will host an event this weekend highlighting the use of public transportation to access essential services.
The Southside Pop-up Bus Hop, a pop-up event from 10am to 2pm, kicks off at the Town South Shopping Centre. Attendees take free guided tours where city bus services connect residents.
