MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) – On Saturday, Monterey Peninsula University and the Women’s Fire Brigade of California partnered to host the region’s first Girls Fire Camp.
The day-long camp gave 32 young women from Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties a chance to experience firefighting, challenge themselves physically, and build confidence.
The girls, ages 14 to 18, participated and learned skills such as rope rescue, search and rescue, laddering, firefighting and trespassing.
Local fire departments supported the program by sending volunteers and equipment.
