A 26-year-old man believed to have been drunk while driving was killed in a car crash during a police pursuit outside Jacksonville on New Year’s Day.
Jared Nathanial Combs was identified in a news release Tuesday by Medford Police, the lead investigator in the January 1 case.
“Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, based on officers’ initial observations, although a toxicology report is pending,” the release said.

Jacksonville Police received a report of a reckless vehicle turning on the 4600 block of Route 238 shortly after 3:30 pm on January 1.
He took S. Stage Road and overspeeded towards Medford. According to the news release, “some time later” Combs was unable to turn on properly at Sunset Drive, where he crashed.
Jacksonville Police Chief David Tow told the Mail Tribune on Tuesday that he had no further information about the case and referred all questions to the Medford Police Department.
The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday night, the release said, and will be forwarded to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for review when complete.
