The Eurozone economy expanded slightly in the fourth quarter of 2022 despite higher energy prices, as projected in a sign of resilience towards the end of 2022.
Gross domestic product increased by 0.1% from October to December compared with the previous quarter, according to data from the European Union’s statistical agency Eurostat released on Tuesday.
This marks a slowdown from the 0.3% expansion recorded in the third quarter, but the region is on track to avoid recession this winter.
The European Commission expects the eurozone to avoid a recession this year, forecasting a 0.9% expansion in 2023, ahead of the 0.3% increase it forecast in November. Meanwhile, economists expect the Eurozone economy to stagnate this year, according to consensus forecasts provided by FactSet.
Eurozone employment increased by 0.4% from October to December compared to the previous quarter, according to Eurostat data.
