The Shindig, a new food park and bar with local food and beverage vendors, opened in summer 2023 in East Dallas and is already helping transform the neighborhood landscape.
Located at 3732 Samuell Blvd. — the space occupied by Keller’s Hamburgers for more than 50 years — The Shindig welcomes all families and seeks to be a place where children are free to play while parents enjoy a good meal or a drink.
“We hear all the time that taking kids out to eat is hard. It’s no fun to sit there while you know your kids are unhappy and squirming,” says owner Kam De León, who used to run a catering company with wife Teri. “We will never tell them to sit down. We’re here to make the kids happy, and then the parents are happy.”
The Shindig has one full-time vendor on site, Locura Small Bites, and can provide space for other vendors in food trucks or pop-up booths. Recent food businesses that have appeared include Cafe’Ciro, The Koi Way, Ay Te Va BBQ and Flaming Grill.
The space can hold up to 150 people and has plenty of fun activities like gaga ball, giant Legos, ping pong tables, a stage for events, and huge TVs in case there’s a big game no one wants to miss.
De León hopes that spaces like hers will further activate an area that has been less developed for many years.
“I think there are a lot of opportunities for Samuell [Blvd.] to change. There are a lot of properties for sale. There’s a lot of development going on,” she said. “Right across the street is the Tenison Golf Course, and right across the street is part of the new mountain bike trail system. It all helps to enhance the area.”
The Shindig opened in summer 2023 at 3732 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. theshindigfoodpark.com.
