Four children, including an 11-month-old infant, were found alive in the Colombian jungle more than two weeks after the plane crashed, killing all on board.
The miraculous news was delivered by President Gustavo Petro after an exhaustive search by the country’s military, firefighters and civil aviation authorities.
The doomed plane crashed into the dense jungle on May 1, killing the pilot and two other adult passengers on board.
Three adults were found dead inside the Cessna 206.
The four surviving children of the country’s indigenous communities are ages 13, 9, 4 and a toddler.
Authorities believe they escaped from the plane and set off on foot to seek help before being found in Caqueta province.
“Following an intensive military search, the four children missing in the Guaviare plane crash have been found alive,” Petro said. on Twitter. ‘A joy for the country’
The plane issued an emergency alert as it was flying from the state of Amazonas to a city in the state of Guaviare.
The search for the wreckage involved dogs as well as planes and helicopters from the Colombian Army and Air Force.
