Internship: Mera is a pharmacology and toxicology intern at Rutgers University for an undergraduate research experience funded by the National Institutes of Health. In her role, Mera works in a lab and performs experiments to study chronic liver disease. She also attends professional panels and career workshops and tours pharmaceutical companies.
How HPU helped you get there:
“My professors at HPU were supportive and happily provided me with letters of recommendation for my fellowship application. They were very helpful throughout the entire process. My biochemistry research and writing course helped me craft my resume, and the activities in that class prepared me to network with professionals in my field.”

“Dr. Keir Fogarty, associate professor of chemistry, is my most impactful mentor at HPU. He has been my advisor since my freshman year and has given me advice about courses and my future career. He wrote me letters of recommendation which helped me get accepted into multiple research programs.”
What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?:
“My research experience has been a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Not only have my laboratory skills improved, but I am also learning how to network with other professionals and create long-term connections for my future.”
