CHILLICOTHE − Winning in the small animal category at the Ross County Fair is a great feeling, but it doesn’t mean you’re done competing as winners in each small animal category move on to compete against each other in the small animal Showman of Showmen competition.
This competition featured the best of the best for small animals and took place Thursday morning. Contestants showcased their knowledge with a written test and three showman tests with poultry, rabbits and pygmy goats. The groups were broken up by level of experience: junior, intermediate and senior.
While working with animals judges had contestants answer questions and point out different parts of the animal. Questions included where the pygmy goats come from, what type of egg a particular chicken would lay and more. These questions helped showcase the knowledge of contestants as well as their showmanship.
After the competition the judges tallied up the scores and named the winner of each experience level. The winner for the junior level was Alivia Corcoran, the winner for the intermediate level was Lydia Beery and the winner for the senior level was McKenzie Kitchen. As a prize winners received a customized jacket showing that they had been named the Showman of Showmen.
