The Steelbound brewery and pub turns 5 years old this weekend. Co-owners are thrilled with the recent expansion to Dunkirk.

“We’ve had a phenomenal performance, but we’ve never really had a grand opening.” Bill Bersey said Wednesday. “People know us and word of mouth is really growing at Dunkirk.”

Steelbound Dunkirk opened on July 4th at the Clarion Hotel on Lake Shore Drive along Dunkirk’s lakefront. Bersey said Dunkirk’s lakeside attractions are a big draw for Steelbound.

“There’s a pier, a boardwalk and a marina.” He said. “Once you sit down, you’ll understand why.”

Clarion plans to renovate and Berthy plans to expand Steelbound Dunkirk in tandem. “There is a lot going on, and a lot of it depends on funding.” He said.

Steelbound Dunkirk, which opened in July, celebrates its fifth anniversary throughout Steelbound, with parties on Fridays and Saturdays.

Steelbound opened its first store in Ellicottville five years ago, and has since expanded to Springville and Dunkirk. Each store plans a 5th anniversary party every Friday and Saturday from noon until closing time.

Friday is Cinco de Mayo and the day’s celebrations mark it. Steelbound debuts his two new tequilas and has food and drink specials all day long. All participants will receive a margarita glass.

Saturday’s party will be Kentucky Derby themed. Steelbound launches his four new bourbons out of his starting gate. Anyone wearing a fancy derby hat can get her drink specials, and other food and drink his specials will be served him throughout the day.
