Want to show off your chili cooking skills? Tejas Pepperfest is that place.

San Angelo, Texas — Do you have the best chili recipe in San Angelo? What about salsa?

The first ever Tejas Pepperfest will take place on May 6th from 10am to 6pm and May 7th from 10am to 4pm at the First Financial Pavilion at 4400 Grape Creek Road.

The event will include food and clothing vendors, along with a chili and salsa competition that will benefit the Hopperhouse Recovery Center in San Angelo.

Mad Hustle event owner and event organizer Tabitha Evans said: “There’s a cutting board, boutique clothes, RV stairs, a little bit of everything.”

Evans is a friend of Hopper House owners Brandi and Chris Hopper, who started an addiction recovery center to encourage sobriety.

The couple are currently enrolled in a 12-stage program that houses more than 40 men in need of general labor, office, or skilled labor careers.

“they [the Hoppers] started [Hopper House] They’re so passionate about recovery that they get it out of their pocket,” Evans said.

Food vendors from Texas and New Mexico will also participate, and all participants are encouraged to participate in the Chili Cook-Off and Salsa-Making Contest.

Chilean participants must arrive on May 7th at 8:00 am and complete the recipe by 12:00 noon. Admission is he $25 per person.

Salsa-making participants must submit their recipes by 2:00 PM on May 7th, where a jury will determine the best items.

As a host, Evans is most excited to see how well it works.

“I’m curious how many people will come and whether the heat will have an effect,” she said.
